If you’re expanding your website and want to add a new page, there are a couple of routes you can take. We’ll explain the steps below, as well as the potential drawbacks of the second option.
✅ Recommended: creating a new page from templates
Because it’s easier to ensure your page settings are correct, we recommend using your Template Library to create a new page. Here’s how to do it:
Step One: Navigate to Pages
In your WordPress admin area, navigate to Pages on the left-hand sidebar. This will open the Pages screen and display your existing pages.
Select Add New up at the top next to Pages. A new page will be created and you’ll be taken to the Page settings screen.
Step Two: Enter the Name
Here is where you enter the name of your new page. You will also want to review and change all the necessary settings like ensuring the URL slug appears as you’d like it to and the Search Exclude options are correct for the purpose of this page.
Once you’ve ensured your settings are correct, click Save draft.
Step Three: Edit with Elementor
Now that your page has been created and its settings saved, click on Edit with Elementor to begin building. The page will load blank with add options displayed. Click on the Template Library icon (it looks like a file folder) in the center.
You’ll need to select My Templates at the top to open your personal Template Library tab.
Step Four: Saved Templates
We recommend using saved page templates to create your starting point. Once you’ve added a template, you can go about editing the page to house your new content while maintaining design fidelity. You’ll also be able to add container and element templates to the page.
Step Five: Publish
You can use Save draft as long as you need to continue editing the page, and when you’re finished, press Publish to take your new page live.
Cloning to create new pages
There’s another method to create new pages, although we don’t recommend it as often: cloning an existing page. This method isn’t our recommended route because it can be easier to forget to adjust certain settings, causing your new page to have issues once published. However, it might come in handy in certain cases. Here’s how to clone a page:
Step One: Navigate to Pages
In your WordPress admin area, navigate to Pages on the left-hand sidebar. This will open the Pages screen and display your existing pages.
Hover over the page you’d like to make a copy of and select Clone. This will create a draft of a new page.
Step Two: Edit Page Settings
Before you begin to edit the page, you’ll want to select Edit to be taken to the Page Settings screen.
????Take care reviewing all the settings and ensuring they are correct for your new page or the page may not work properly once it is live on your site.
For example, if you’ve used a hidden page as your cloned page but you want your new page to be viewed as an in-site search result, be sure to adjust the Search Exclude settings accordingly. You’ll also need to change the name of the page and the URL slug, along with any other SEO settings.
Remember to click Save draft when you’re done changing settings.
Step Three: Edit with Elementor
Now that your page is ready to edit, select Edit with Elementor to begin making changes to the new page. When you enter Elementor, the page will look just like the one you cloned, but changes will only affect this new page.
Note: Even when you clone a page, you’ll likely want to use your Template Library to add elements or containers, unless you want the page to be nearly identical.
Step Four: Publish
You can Save draft as long as you need to continue editing the page, and when you’re finished, you can press Publish to take your new page live.
