Remote work is often seen as the dream, but the work-from-home setup isn’t free of stressors. And when your office is also where you live, you have to prioritize your well-being to make sure that work stress doesn’t make home a difficult place to be. 🏠 Here’s what I do to support my well-being while working remotely for Valerian.
Starting the day off right ☕
Before starting work, I like to jumpstart my body and brain with a cup of coffee. Sometimes it’s the small parts of our routines that help us feel ready for the day ahead.
Ensuring my space is clean and organized ✨
When I am working, I like to have a clean space to help me focus on what I’m doing. I usually clean my work area the night before or in the morning before I start working. This lets me begin the day with a clean space, feeling refreshed. It also keeps me from being distracted by cleaning throughout the day. 😅
By building my cleaning time into my daily routine, I am able to set myself up for success in the long run. It also means that cleaning my desk doesn’t become a big, overwhelming task because I don’t let things pile up.
Working on the move 🏎️
I like to get multiple things done at once during the day, especially household tasks that tend to pile up. My desk is adjustable so I can work sitting or standing, but it also has wheels, so I can move around the house with it. 🤩 If I have a task that needs to be monitored while I let it run in the background, you’ll often find me doing dishes or cooking with my desk next to me in the kitchen.
If I get too restless after concentrating on something for a long time, I just walk around the house with my desk. Nothing like taking your work for a walk!
Keeping the essentials nearby 💁
Besides my computer, I like to have the things that I need and enjoy nearby. Keeping these things on my desk helps to make my working day more comfortable. I keep a cup for water (yay, hydration! 💧) and a cup for coffee on my desk, and I’ll refill them both from time to time throughout the day. I’ll often have something to snack on as well.
My desk has a helpful little space where I can store other things I may need, like a pen or power cord so I don’t have to go looking when I need them. I like to have my phone standing right in front of me, and I usually have the Remote app pulled up so I can watch TV while I work. 📺
Prioritizing ease and well-being 🌿
After all is said and done, I like to create a workspace for myself where I can feel comfortable and focused. Work can get stressful, but making a habit of caring for yourself in how you arrange your workspace can make a big difference.
